Tierra Prestada

Tierra Prestada (Borrowed Land)

Tierra Prestada is the story of a Costa Rican family living undocumented in the United States.  The father –seduced by accounts of the American dream– decides to sell all of the family’s belongings and move to a small town in rural Illinois.  While father and mother prepared to trade their home country for the American Heartland, the children were happy to believe they were just going on vacation.  As some in the family have become willing participants in this journey; others continue longing for the return to a country they haven’t seen in 10 years.

Tierra Prestada is an exploration of family relationships,  invented truths and unreliable memories, as all family members try to latch on to a movable reality: the shadow of resentment, a lingering fear of deportation and the elusiveness of the American dream.
